Say, “If Allah had willed, I would not have recited it to you, nor would He have made it known to you, for I had remained among you a lifetime before it. Then will you not reason?”
Yunus:16
The below is an excerpt from Imam Alusi’s commentary on the above verse:
Whoever has even a slight amount of intelligence, and ponders on the matter of Muhammad (peace be upon him), and on the fact that he grew up amongst these people for a long period of time without having any connection with the scholars in any matter whatsoever, or any back-and-forth relationship with them in any art or discipline, and without mixing with the people of balagha in conversation and discourse, or delving along with them in composing sermons and debating, and then such a person brings a book, the fasaha of which renders silent every person of adab, and its balagha has dumbfounded the gurus from the Arabs, and it consists of the most amazing categories of knowledge, and the subtleties of the realities of the mantooq and the mafhoom, and it became a revealer of the secrets of the unseen that even people with intellects cannot attain, and it reveals the stories of the people who came first and those who are yet to come from all of the generations, and it verifies the previously revealed books and is a guardian upon them in both its vague and detailed rulings, [whoever ponders on all of that] there will be no doubt left in their minds that it is a revelation from Allah jalla jalaaluhu.
