About

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

May peace and blessings be upon His Messenger, Muhammad.

This is a blog to pen down and share some notes and thoughts primarily from my studies in the Islamic sciences. I have named the blog Reading the Classics as the focus will be on the classical texts which provide us a window into a world where Islam was thought and talked about free from the pressures and constraints that we encounter in understanding and explaining Islam in the modern world. Needless to say, we do need to pay due attention to modern texts as well that deal with contemporary issues, but the classics remain our roots, our foundations. Therefore, the blog won’t be restricted to the classics only and may contain notes on works from the late classical or even modern period, though the primary focus will remain on the classics.

Some posts will be summaries of certain books, while others may be explanations of certain topics that I found useful. Most of them will be in the form of brief notes pre-supposing the reader has some familiarity with the topic. Therefore, most of the content will perhaps be of interest only to those studying or teaching in any of the relevant fields, but there may be some topics of general interest as well.

Categorisation is always a bit of a challenge. Some categories will be named after specific books that I intend to make a series of posts on insha Allah. Others will be titled more generally, e.g. based on the relevant discipline of study, such as, Hadith. Anything that I can’t fit into a specific category, will be classified as “Miscellaneous”.

I ask for du’a so Allah makes this little effort a source of widespread benefit.
